LECTURES

Week 10

Scott McCloud's theory - Transitions

1) Moment to Moment

2) Action to Action

3) Subject to Subject

4) Scene to Scene

4) Aspect to Aspect

INSTRUCTIONS

Week 10

Task 3 - Digital Triptych (Transitions)

The objective of this task is to apply Scott McCloud's theory on transitions to create a digital triptych, comprising three panels: one before, one during (climatic turning point), and one after a significant event. Each panel will represent a different transition type from McCloud's theory.

Referencing Scott McCloud's analysis of transition in "Understanding Comics", we will need to select one panel before and one panel after the climatic turning point, surrounding a panel representing the turning point itself.

Since we already drew out the climatic turning point on Task 2 (Urban Legend), based on that, we only need to draw the other two panels.
Same as before, I drew out the sketches first. I decided to use the transition Subject to Subject for this task because I thought that would be suitable to my idea.

Once the sketches were approved, I started to digitise them in Ai.

Week 11

Mr. Fauzi said that the chat box would make the illustration look less Art-Deco style, so I threw it away.

FEEDBACK

Week 10 (Online)

Week 11 (Physical)

It's okay to keep the sound effects words, but the chat box should get rid of them as they don't quite fit the Art-Deco style.

REFLECTION

  Experience
I have learned and gained knowledge about the transitions from Scott McCloud's theory. It was a captivating and challenging journey for me as we had to use this theory in our Urban Legend story and we needed to expand it into a short story and create it into three panels.

  Observation
This was a challenging task as I had to think through multiple elements when creating the artwork. I had to make sure the artwork matched to the Art-Deco and minimalist art styles, and that our message was effectively expressed in just two panels.

  Findings
Every transition has a particular way of creating an atmosphere and expressing many different feelings. Through careful consideration of transitions, we can come up with a message that is both more captivating and powerful.
