In the Design Research Methodology module, we were tasked with selecting a topic based on our chosen specialization and conducting a series of research activities related to that topic. This assignment provided an invaluable opportunity to delve deeper into a field that has piqued my interest: UI/UX design. Although I had researched UI/UX extensively before deciding to specialize in it for my future studies, I realized that my understanding was still somewhat superficial and fragmented due to my lack of hands-on experience. Therefore, I was eager to use this module as a springboard to gain a more comprehensive understanding of UI/UX design, particularly as it relates to game interface design.

I am immensely grateful for the guidance of my assigned lecturer, Ms. Anis, who patiently guided us through this module, examining our tasks step-by-step from Task 1 to Task 4. Her detailed feedback and insights helped me refine my research focus and encouraged me to explore the depths of my chosen topic. Under her mentorship, I felt empowered to navigate the complexities of design research and develop a clearer understanding of UI/UX.

During Task 1, I decided to focus on interface design in games. My interest in this area stems from my passion for game development, and I saw this research as a chance to deepen my understanding of the subject. However, I encountered a significant challenge early on: defining a research topic with a sufficiently narrow focus. Ms. Anis emphasized the importance of concentrating on a specific area, advising us to narrow our topics as much as possible. Initially, I struggled with understanding how to effectively narrow my scope. To address this, I invested considerable time in studying the various facets of game interface design, attempting to gain a comprehensive understanding of the field's distinctions and classifications. Through this exploration, I eventually discovered the term "HUD," which stands for Heads-Up Display. This concept provided a focused lens through which I could analyze game interface design.

Throughout the module, I gained a deeper understanding of UI/UX and discovered insights into other specializations through interactions with my classmates. We often shared our lessons and thoughts with one another, fostering an environment of collaborative learning. This exchange of ideas was, in my opinion, one of the most rewarding aspects of the course. As students with a shared thirst for knowledge, we proactively sought to learn from each other's research topics and content. This not only helped fill our knowledge gaps and expand our collective understanding, but it also reinforced our comprehension of our own research. We supported one another, growing together academically and personally. This collaborative and supportive educational environment is, in my view, one of the healthiest and most effective ways for students to learn and thrive.

Through my selected topic, I developed a strong understanding of game interface design. I learned that HUDs are crucial elements in games, especially in action-adventure genres. The design of a HUD can significantly impact the gaming experience, influencing both player immersion and enjoyment. This understanding was further supported by my critical review, where I found that many researchers have conducted comprehensive studies and analyses to underscore this statement.

In conclusion, this module was a valuable lesson that helped me build a mindset of understanding and learning within my specialization. It allowed me to explore UI/UX design from both theoretical and practical perspectives, ultimately equipping me with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue my passion for game development more effectively.
